Water sensors in action

Water is among the most common risks that businesses face. To help detect water leaks before serious damage can occur, Hanover Risk Solutions has partnered with HSB as part of the Hanover i-on Sensors for Property Program. Using technology, these sensors send alerts when water is detected.

Being able to stop a leak before damage becomes catastrophic can save time, money and frustration—and can bring peace of mind.

See how our customers have benefited

"A water line broke over the weekend in building one, tripping the sensor. We dispatched an employee and made the repair. No property loss. The water sensors are great."

“We had an issue last night and the sensor is what alerted us to it. We dispatched our plumber who saw that the main sewer lines that fed both buildings were clogged. We ended up calling in a sewer jetting service to clear the line. It was about 250 feet into the system.”

The customer had water that was coming in during a heavy rain storm. They received an alert and were able to ensure there was not a leak. The sensors worked as planned and were a success.

"I received an email alert and dispatched a plumber who found a piece of equipment on the boiler leaking. The email definitely helped identify the issue and helped us get to the boiler room faster. I am very happy.”

“We had a small leak develop in some copper pipe. The sensor alerted us before any real damage was done. Great program!”

A sprinkler riser in the building laundry area began to fail and immediately triggered the sensor. The insured responded quickly, and by the time they got there, the entire sprinkler riser had burst. They were able to shut off the water immediately and mitigate damage to the area within the laundry area.

If the sensor had not been there, the water would have flowed into all of the finished areas of the building, including a daycare facility, with significant damage and replacement costs, along with loss of rent and downtime.

"The sensors saved us! If the leak had not been detected, most of the basement would have been filled with an inch or two of water. We likely would have had to deal with water damage remediation and possible replacement of carpeting."

"The sensor was helpful when a leak occurred and the system relayed the information to us. The leak most likely happened during a heavy rainstorm. We had never noticed it because it was very small and had evaporated before we saw it, due to the location. I believe these devices can be very helpful in finding and addressing leaks.”

Water tank leaking onto the floor

A customer discovered a lower water heating element failure on an electric 80 gallon domestic hot water tank. He was alerted on his phone, investigated, shut the water off, and within an hour had a plumber on site to replace the appliance.

The water heater was positioned on a plumbed drip pan, but if they didn't have the water sensor, the leak-flow would have overtopped the pan causing damage to drywall and carpeting. The customer credited the program, as the water heater area is not an area he frequents and would only have been discovered after property damage had occurred.
